NREMT and State EMS Continuing Education Online
Introduction to NCCP
The National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) was constructed using methodology similar to that of the American Board of Medical Specialties requirements and streamlines the recertification process into three strategic categories of continuing education: National, Local, and Individual.
The National Continued Competency Program is designed to encourage Nationally Certified EMS personnel to pursue life-long education while also providing state and local agencies the freedom to customize education to meet local operational needs.
NCCP Component Hours Breakdown
- National Registry Paramedic (NRP), National Registry AEMT (NRAEMT), National Registry EMT (NREMT), and National Registry EMR (NREMR) requires Continuing Education (CE) hours recertification every 2 years.
- For each of the National, State/Local, and Individual components; Of the total hours of education required, a limited number can be taken online through distributive education. The remaining hours must be in a physical classroom or Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT).
- If your state does not have any specific requirements, those state hours become part of the individual component. Any State or CAPCE approved CE is allowed.
- For the individual component (flexible content), any State or CAPCE approved CE is allowed.

Introduction to CAPCE
The Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) is an accrediting body charged with the review and accreditation of EMS continuing education (CE). CAPCE represents only that its accredited programs have met CAPCE standards for accreditation. These standards require sound educational offerings determined by a review of its objectives, teaching plan, faculty, and program evaluation process. CAPCE does not endorse or support the actual teachings, opinions or material content as presented by the speaker(s) and/or sponsoring organization. CAPCE accreditation does not represent that the content conforms to any national, state or local standard or best practice of any nature.
